The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra SIF309 recorded the original music score of an Oscar winner

Argentine drama “El Secreto de Sus Ojos” aka “The Secret in Their Eyes”

Best foreign film of the year and Oscar winner “The Secret in Their Eyes” of the 82 annual ceremony became an overnight sensation. Original music score was recorded in Sofia with SIF 309 Film Music Orchestra in the early spring of 2009. The talented young composer Federico Jusid gained a huge success and recognition with this project, both audience and critically acclaimed. He has composed the original sound tracks for more than 25 featured films.

A riveting Argentine thriller holding the viewer in thrall for most of its two-hour running time, it has the kind of universal appeal that unites critics and audiences and can look forward to worldwide sales that could jump beyond the usual Spanish-language markets.




IGOR

In June 2008, The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra – SIF 309 recorded the music for the 3D animated movie “IGOR”. The original soundtrack was composed by Patrick Doyle (author of the music of famous productions, such as “Est – Ovest”, “Eragon”, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”).

The film is written by Chris McKenna and directed by Anthony Leonidis.

The voices of the happy monsters – the characters of IGOR belong to famous actors, such as John Kusak, Steve Buscemi, Jennifer Coolidge and others.

The world premiere of the movie will be on 19.09.2008.

Hollywood outsources work to a Bulgarian recording company

One of the most trusted newspaper Los Angeles Times says that The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra – SIF309 is the new Hot spot for U.S. movie scores.

Staten Island

On March 8&9 The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra – SIF309 recorded the music for the movie “Staten Island” with composer Frederic Verrieres. Ethan Hawke stars the film, with James DeMonaco making his directorial debut.

DeMonaco's script intersects the storylines of three of the borough residents and struggles of getting ahead. DeMonaco adapted the 2005 remake of John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 that starred Hawke.




Mia et le Migou

Mia et le Migou is a 90 minutes animation produced by Folimage and recorded in February 2008 by The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra – SIF309.

A three series reportage about the recording of the music for “Mia et le Migou" was aired on France 3.





The Starter Wife

In 2007 the mini series "The Starter Wife" won an Emmy award and have been nominated in ten different categories. The series was nominated also for Golde Globe 2008.

The Starter Wife was recorded in May 2007 by The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra-SIF 309 with composer Ed Shearmur and orchestrator Tony Blondal.
The movie tells a story about an ex-wife who starts a new life after her divorce.




El Orfanato to participate The 2008 Oscar's


SIF 309 is proud to announce that the movie El Orfanato /The Orphanage/ was officially elected to represent Spain on the 2008 Oscar ceremony. The music for El Orfanato is composed by the young and talented composer Fernando Velazquez and was recorded with The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra – SIF 309 in March 2007.



June 2007

The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra – SIF309 have been invited for a concert in Venice in one of the most beautiful and famous halls in the world – Teatro La Fenice.

The orchestra was conducted by Maurizio Abeni.

The program of the concert included one of the most popular film soundtracks of Italian composers.

Before the concert the music was recorded with The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra – SIF309 in Sofia.





The Hunting Party

On 28th of April, The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra- SIF 309 recorded the music for the movie "Spring Break in Bosnia" composed by Rolfe Kent and orchestrated by Tony Blondal.
Richard Shepart’s movie "Spring Break in Bosnia", featuring a discredited journalist and a seasoned cameraman who embark upon finding a Bosnian war criminal, is a thrilling story about how things can go wrong when faced with post-war realities.
The exquisite cast of Richard Gere and Diane Kruger additionally make up for the realistic and dramatic development of the plot.





Ulzhan

On 24th of March The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra-SIF 309 recorded the latest original film score of the composer Bruno Coulais for Ulzhan .
Shot in Kazakhstan, Ulzhan is a movie of Volker Schlondorff and Rollo Steffens.

When Nietzsche Wept

In March 21, 2007 in Zanuck Theater at Fox Studios took place the screening of When Nietzsche Wept.

The music of the movie was recorded by The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra - SIF 309 in November 2006.

Indigènes /a.k.a. Days Of Glory/

Another movie with music composed by Armand Amard and recorded with "The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra SIF 309" has been distinguished this year.

It has been recently nominated for Oscar in the category Best Foreign Language Film Of The Year.

On the Cannes Film Festival 2006 the movie “Indigènes“ won the François Chalais Award as well as the award for best actor. It has been nominated for Golden Palm on the same festival and for Independent Spirit Award Best Foreign Film on the Independent Spirit Awards 2007.
Nomad

WE PROUDLY ANNOUNCE THE NOMINATION OF CARLO SILIOTTO TO THE 64th GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS FOR THE CATEGORY BEST ORIGINAL SCORE WITH THE FILM NOMAD.

The original film score has been recorded in June 2005 with "The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra SIF 309" in Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio. The movie is a historical epic about 18th century Kazakhstan, a vast, pitiless region of austere and terrible beauty, bordered by China, Russia and Tibet.

Haxan

Haxan album is nominated at the Icelandic Music Awards as the Record of the Year 2006 /Variety Category/. The awards ceremony will be held early 2007.

The original film score for Haxan by the composer Bardi Johansson has been recorded in June 2005.


Va, Vis et Deviens

Recorded in October 2004 with "The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra SIF 309" in Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio, “Va, Vis et Deviens” won numerous awards.

On the César Awards in 2006 the movie won an award for Best Original Writing and has been nominated in three other categories:
- Best Music Written for a Film
- Best Director
- Best Film

In 2005 on the Berlin International Film Festival the movie won three awards:
- Label Europa Cinemas
- Panorama Audience Award
- Prize of the Ecumenical Jury Panorama

Then again in 2005 on the Copenhagen International Film Festival Va, Vis et Deviens won Golden Swan for Best Film and on the Vancouver International Film Festival won the award for Most Popular Film.

Its original movie score was composed by Armand Amard
One more distinction for Hotel Rwanda.

The movie was awarded by the European Film Academy last December 2 in Warsaw, during The European Film Award 2005 ceremony. At this occasion, Andrea Guerra and Rupert Gregson-Williams became European Composer of the year 2005, for the original movie score.

The soundtrack of Hotel Rwanda has been recorded at the end of July 2004 by the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra in Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio.

This week, in Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio, SIF309 Film and Music Production together with the Bulgarian Symphony orchestra recorded the music for the new album of Italian celebrity Al Bano.

The album, which is about to be released in Italy in 3 months, will be called " Ti parlo del sud” and is characterized as pop-genre.

The conductor during the recording and the author of some of the tracks is Alterisio Paoletti, others have been written by Al Bano’s older son Yari, as well as by Al Bano himself.

This is not the first time the Italian star visits us. In 2002 we recorded the music of another album of his - “Carrisi canta Caruso".

Deo and D-2 on MTV

After conquering the tops of the most prominent BG music/video charts, and acquiring a serious number of nominations for MMTV Bulgaria’s upcoming music 2004 awards, “Tova sme nie” /”This is us”/ by D-2 and Deo won a truly deserted appearance on the air of MTV’s World Chart Express.

“Tova sme nie” from the debut album of Deo (“Tova sum az”) is the Bulgarian song that was broadcasted on this week WCE’s issue.

The video entered the chart directly on # 4 and was aired for the very first time on Saturday, March 5th 2005.

The lyrics were written by Deo and Rumen Gaidarov-Garo. Dimitar Kurnev and Alexander Obretenov wrote the music, and the D-2 did the arrangement. The video was directed by the prominent Valeri Milev. It includes shots from “El’s revolt” – a movie in which Deo plays the leading role. The song will be included in D-2’s next album.
“This is me”

Deo

One of the most favourite Bulgarian TV hosts, he’s already distinguished with his specific style of speaking. Now you have to listen to his way of singing. The debut album of the famous Bulgarian TV host Deo, titled “This is me”/ “Tova sum az”/ is already out on the market. In December “The Chouchkov Brothers” produced the album of the TV celebrity.

The first official song of Deo is his common song with the pop band D_2 called “Two traces” (2002). A remix of the song is included in the present album.

The first single from the album was “You’d better not” („Po-dobre nedej”). It was released in July 2004 and momentarily turned into a summer hit. Viktor Chouchkov Jr. is the video’s director.

D_2 are co-authors of another hit from the album – “This is us” („Tova sme nie). It was chosen for a second single and its video, directed by the famous director Valeri Milev, made its debut on the national TV air in the beginning of December 2004.

The video of “This is us” includes scenes from “El’s revolt” (Buntyt na El). That is the newest movie by director Kiran Kolarov, in which Deo plays the chief role.

“This is me” includes 11 songs. The CD version includes a 12th bonus track, which is a remix of one of the songs done by French composer Dominique Rossi. The greatest part of the music and its arrangement is written by Iavor Russinov from the Bulgaro project. One of the songs was composed by the guitarist and main author of the music of the prominent band D_2 Mitko Kurnev. Two other songs were written for Deo by the front man of the Bulgarian hip-hop band “Absurd” (Upsyrt) – Itzo Hazarta. The lyrics are written by Deo, Teo Chepilov, Iavor Russinov. The back-vocals of three of the songs are sung by Lora Karadjova.

Three of the remixes in the album are done by Iavor Russinov, the fourth one is made by the French composer Dominique Rossi. The album’s style is a mixture of the styles Deo himself adores – pop, hip-hop, chill out, electronic music, rock.

The album was officially presented on a concert in Hall 3 of the National Palace of Culture on the 28th December 2004. Special quest-appearance was made by the bands D_2 and Upsyrt.


In the first week of February 2005 SIF309 and BSO got involved in another curious music production. In relation to the preparation for the 100th anniversary of Portuguese football team Benfica Lissabon, we recorded the music for a special CD /called “Sinfonia 1”/ dedicated to the event. The music for the celebration of the team’s birthday was written by composer Antonio Victorino d’Almeida known for the composition of music for the films April Captains, Ballets Rose - Vidas Proibidas, Polícias, Três Palmeiras, A Estrangeira, etc.



Les choristes

“Les choristes” has been nominated for an Oscar Award in the following categories:

- Best Music (song)
- Best Foreign Language Film

The movie has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The music was written by French composer Bruno Coulais. Christophe Barratier, is the movie’s director.



Hotel Rwanda

"Hotel Rwanda" has been nominated for a Golden Globe in the categories:
- Best Original Song
- Best Motion Picture Drama
- Best Actor Performance in a Motion Picture
It also has chances for winning an Oscar in the following categories:
- Writing (Original Screenplay)
- Actor in a Leading Role
- Actress in a Supporting Role

Its original movie score was composed by Andrea Guerra.

On Sunday, 19.09.2004, "Hotel Rwanda", the soundtrack of which was recorded at the end of July 2004 by the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, won the People's Choice award at the Toronto International Film Festival.

"Hotel Rwanda," tells the true story of a hotel manager who saves hundreds of lives during the Rwanda’s 1994 genocide. The movie gained the audience’s approval due to the representation of real life horrors of genocide and civil conflict. The award is considered a precondition for a future Academy Award nomination.


The movie produced by the producer of “Born on the Fourth of July”, “Ali”, “JFK”, etc. features Don Cheadle and Nick Nolte. Its original movie score was composed by Andrea Guerra and recorded in Studio 1 of The Bulgarian National Radio, Sofia.

In February 2004 the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra recorded the original movie score of the movie “The Punisher”, composed by Carlo Siliotto. Among Siliotto’s other works are soundtracks for the movies “Julius Caesar”, “Francesco”, “Honolulu Baby”, “Y tu que harias por amor?”, etc. Apart from Siliotto, director and writer Jonathan Hensleigh /“Die Hard: With a Vengeance”, “The Saint”, “Armageddon”, etc/ also attended the recording sessions, which took place in Studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio.

The action crime movie produced by Artisan Entertainment, features Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Laura Harring, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, Samantha Mathis, etc. and is to be released on April 16th 2004.

“The Punisher" is a movie about ex-Special Forces agent Frank Castle. Castle deserts his job and starts up a normal desk job. Suddenly, his life changes completely when his family is murdered. Determined to seek revenge, he hero starts a battle against the evil.

The original movie score of “Je sius un Assasin” is a production recorded by the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra in February 2004. The movie, the music of which was composed by Krishna Levy, received the award for Best Original Movie Score on 2004 Cannes Film Festival.

The movie is directed by Thomas Vincent, who also directed movies like Karnaval , Divorce sans merci (TV), Demi père (TV), Lady Bag, etc.

It tells the story of two men who meet on a train to Marseilles. Brice (Bernard Giraudeau) and Ben (François Cluzet) are crime authors. Since Brice cannot write due to his pending divorce, they decide he publishes Ben's next manuscript under his own name and they will then divide the profit. The condition is that Ben kills Brice's wife, who otherwise will receive the money according to the divorce settlement.

In December 2003 the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra recorded the original movie score of the French movie “Les Choristes”. 700,000 copies sold in France so far prove the soundtrack’s success. This time the courtesy is of French composer Bruno Coulais / “Le Peuple Migrateur”, “The Crimson Rivers”, “Agents Secrets”, “Toute une histoire”, “Les Parents terribles” (TV), “L'Enfant qui voulait être un ours”, etc./.

The film is Christophe Barratier’s first full movie as a director. Before that, Barratier has been a “producteur délégué” of the movies “Microcosmos, the people of grass”, “Himalaya, the childhood of a boss” and “The migrant People”.

“Les choristes” features Gérard Jugnot, François Berléand, Jacques Perrin, Jean-Baptiste Maunier, Kad Merad, etc. The movie’s has been seen by more than 7.6 million people in France since its release in March.

In September 2003 the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra recorded the string section for the last album of Troublemakers, titled “Stereo Pictures vol. 2”.

After their 1st noticed and remarkable album, “Doubts & Convictions”, in 2003 Troublemakers release “Stereo Pictures vol. 2”, which depicts an alarming urban world that is comparatively “old school” and mixes features of old soul, old jazz, old funk, old samples and modern electronic sounds.

The French group consists of Fred Berthet, Arnaud Taillefer and Lionel Corsini. The three meet in Marseilles, sharing their diverse musical passions. It takes them two years of work in studio to release their first album, which has a sound that can be described equally to reggae, afrobeat, funk, Hip-Hop or electronic heads.

Luciano Pavarotti released his first solo album in more than 15 years, called “Ti adoro”. It was inspired by the joy his new baby daughter brought to him. The title track “Ti adoro” dedicated to the little daughter Alice was recorded with the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra - SIF 309 in studio 1 of BNR as well as 4 other songs from the album. In April 2003, in Sofia arrived Michele Centonze - producer of the album, the world famous conductor Robert Mathes and the arranger Giancarlo Chiaramello and our partner Marco Streccioni from Sud Ovest Records for the recordings of the album “Ti adoro”. In the course of three days, 180 Bulgarian musicians from BSO and singers became responsible of making happening the solo album of the music phenomena Luciano Pavarotti.
